Indelibly Great Fics!

Hello to all our beloved readers, today we have a plethora of wonderful stories to share with you all and we are certain that there is something in here for everyone. Without further ado, let us hear from one of the most generous and lovely authors in the fandom, bannerday on her brand new story, Indelible!

I have to say I’m excited about writing something new. Indelible will have a more serious storyline than my last story, Fan Fiction, Sex Gods and Single Girls, though I’m sure occasional humor will peek through because this is me writing, after all.

The idea for Indelible has been flitting about in my thoughts for a long time. One line in the first chapter is really the crux of the story: “They say you never forget your first love.” I think many of us would probably agree. Those first romantic experiences, those first steps toward a deeper emotion, beyond a simple crush, the departure from innocence to budding sexual knowledge, they are forever linked to that special person you first shared those things with. But of course, life often leads you in different directions and there are miles to travel and further forks in the road as you go.

I like contemplating the “what ifs?” What if things had been different? What if you’d known then what you do now? What if you had the opportunity to make your past your future? Would you take that leap?

Indelible will tell two sides of a love story, partially through diary and journal entries from the past. But there will also be a present. And if they’re lucky…a future…because things aren’t set in stone yet.

xo bannerday

Summary: Some experiences, some people, stick with you forever, leaving their mark on your memories. You can’t escape what they meant to you and you can’t re-write the past. It’s indelible. But the future isn’t set in stone…it’s yours to write. A story about forks in the road of life and a past with a future. AH M Drama/Romance Bella/Edward (WIP)

I’ve had the privilege of betaing for lyricalkris for a good while now, and with every story, she takes something to a new level. This time it started something like this:

Kris: Give me a pairing.
Me: Any pairing?
Kris: Yeah
Me: Charlie/Alice
Kris: *groans* *whines* Are you trying to kill me?
Me: Always.

Springeresque was my attempt to get someone to explore Charlie and Alice’s relationship. We all know there’s a ton of chemistry between them in the books. Of course, there it’s totally platonic and father/daughter-like, but the beauty of AU is that we get to explore different options. And if there’s one thing Kris does well, it’s to explore and push the boundaries in realistic ways. I love that about her.

This story is full of heartache and hope. As you can tell from the prologue and Chapter 1, Alice’s life has not been easy. In fact, it’s been nothing short of tragic, and what Alice desperately needs is a distraction, just enough to allow her heart to heal. That’s where Charlie comes in. Except he needs something–someone–too.

This fic will hit on some really hard, painful issues (which I can’t talk about here, sorry), but I’m so anxious to see them play out. I’ve read little bits that Kris has in her running document and am positively giddy at all that is still to come. Here’s a tiny preview that gives nothing away, but hopefully will draw you in because GAH I have all the feels over this. MY HEART.

Charlie didn’t say anything. He hesitated. His throat was tight and his heart raced, but the aura of defeat that radiated from Alice made his decision for him. He cleared his throat and stepped away from her. She kept staring down at the the floor, her shoulders slumped down even further, but she finally raised her eyes when she heard the rustle of his shirt coming off. Breathing hard, he turned to  the side so she could see.

We are in for a bumpy ride, but it will be SO, SO good. I promise.

And for those of you who are scrunching up your nose at the thought of Charlie and Alice… just give it a chance. Kris is going to do this right, just like she does every story.

Summary: Alice Brandon Whitlock is twenty-two years old and the story of her life already read like a tragedy- a tragedy worthy of the Jerry Springer show in its twists and turns. Charlie Swan’s life was more sedate, but it hadn’t always been. You never can tell how or when two souls will connect or what they can do for each other. Balançoire by gemini13me

Ballet is an art form in itself, and when an author takes it and incorporates it into a story starring our favourite Twilight characters, we take notice. It requires years of training to learn and master this beautiful form of dance, yet we are gently drawn into the world of ballet as gemini13me adeptly presents it to us in her new fic Balançoire. It’s well-written with a graceful flow to match the smooth moves of the ballet dancers; including one ballerina Isabella Swan, who begins the story as she finally fulfills her “lifelong dream” of auditioning with the American Ballet Theatre…

Almost an hour later, they finally called my name. I stood on stage, looking the two men in the eye, and felt the compelling desire to expel last night’s dinner. Physically, I was ready; emotionally, not even close.

“Please,” Yovenko said, gesturing that I should begin.

Mr. Masen was quiet, his brow furrowed as he watched me. He was unhappy.

Mozart’s Lacrimosa floated through the speakers, and I took a deep, encouraging breath. Such a sad, inspiring song. I knew it by heart. I knew every pas, every single plié and brisé. I could’ve done my routine in my sleep, and yet…

I started hesitantly, falling out of rhythm in the first ten seconds and missing my first pirouette entirely.

Hmm…Bella doesn’t seem to be off to a great start, but it’s what one Mr. Masen, “a giant in the world of ballet” thinks about her complete performance that’s important.  Balançoire is definitely one performance you won’t want to miss.

And here are a few words from gemini13me on the how this poetic story came to be:

“The idea of writing Balançoire came to me one evening when I accidentally stumbled upon a two-hour video of a Lake Swan performance by the American Ballet Theatre. I’d seen the movie The Black Swan which I really enjoyed and thought I’d give the video a try. I was fascinated with the dancing, and the concept seemed to have potential, so I decided it would make for an interesting story. I then started watching more ballet videos. I began searching for ballet sites and blogs, doing as much reading as I could in order to get a better understanding of a world I’d previously known absolutely nothing about. I liked the idea of Edward as a former ballet dancer, so I stuck to that and created the whole plot around it. Before I knew it, the first chapter had almost written itself.”

Summary: “Perfect balance is like a razor’s edge; it can be found only in the Self.” – Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. (WIP)

Sometimes an engaging author can take you right out of your comfort zone – for instance, out of the ‘Edward and Bella’ zone and into ‘Edward and Emmett’ territory – without any pain at all. Building Hope is a story about charity, community and love. Edward, Emmett and Seth are the main characters who change each other’s lives amongst highs and lows, heat and ice, hope and despair and every other element of the best kind of fanfiction. It’s a truly inspirational read. We asked ShellShock81 to tell us why she wrote it:

Building Hope started from a picture I found of Rob and Kellan in an In Style photo shoot. They were walking, one kind of behind the other and both wearing tuxes, and I could clearly see the scene unfold of Emmett chasing Edward down to get his number! It was my first m/m fic, and I wanted to try my hand at angst but not make it all about being gay or coming out. I wanted to write about two people falling in love and the struggles they faced… they just happened to be two guys instead of a guy and a girl.

When Seth came to life, I fell hard for him and immediately scrapped all of my plans, started researching homelessness in LGBT youth, and decided they deserved to have their story told because they are scared, lost, hurt, and voiceless.

I hope reading Building Hope will make you feel happy and sad and angry and outraged and a little mooshy at times. I hope it makes you smile and laugh and maybe even shed a tear or two (I did writing it!) I fell in love with each of the characters as I wrote it (even when they were being cantankerous and uncooperative), and I hope you do the same.

We’re convinced you will! Here’s an excerpt from the beginning of the story:

Edward Masen was certain he had the best job in the world. There was nothing more satisfying than seeing one of his LGBT youth ‘graduate’ out of his Home for Hope and move on in his or her life with a real job, a place to live, and a reliable support system. Some of his youth even took those first tentative steps together—sticking with people they’d met during their time at H4H, holding onto friendships that would last a lifetime. The center had given these kids not only food and sometimes shelter, but understood who they were, what they were going through, and had provided them with the necessary tools to succeed in life.

So on mornings like this, when everything he touched turned to shit, Edward was usually able to keep a positive outlook. When he’d woken up and discovered his coffeemaker was broken, he’d quickly decided that rather than walk the two blocks to work, he’d drive to the local Panera and bring in coffee and bagels for everyone. His glass-half-full attitude dwindled a little when he started to pull out of his parking spot and discovered he had a flat tire. His last ditch effort at remaining positive as he dragged his way to work was visualizing the center’s coffee pot full of the hot, bitter liquid…

Summary: Edward has devoted himself to improving the lives of at-risk youth, but his Home for Hope can’t keep them off the streets at night. Enter Emmett McCarty, the man who can single-handedly fund his dreams. They say to never mix business with pleasure, but maybe it’ll be okay just this once. – No longer available on FFN.

JazzGirl317: My very favorite Twi slash is a semi-canon OS  written by giselle-lx called For a Season…  Trying to explain it would completely give the story away.  But, I will say this… It is so beautifully written and so well constructed that it honestly just seems so perfectly right and the most logical and natural way for things to happen….  I cannot rec it enough!

They both think they’ve lost everything. But some things, it turns out, are never taken away. Breaking Dawn AU. Edward/Carlisle Slash. M Drama (Complete)

MizCullen: Puzzle Pieces by footprints358 Lighthearted and fun, this one makes a great change to all the angst I’m reading!

After a decade away from his family spent focusing on building his career as a doctor, Edward has returned home. He’s ready to reconnect with his family and his friends, and to find that companionship that he traded for work. Six friends, all different, that fit together like missing pieces to a puzzle. Rated M for adult language, humor, and situations. Cannon couples. Romance/Humor M Edward/Bella (WiP)

SunflowerFran: I have been enjoying A Crack In the Door by JaneWithay. Edward owns a bar on the Cape and he meets Bella under the oddest of circumstances. The author uses description and emotion so well;  you feel yourself there with the characters amidst the salt water and the sand. Wonderful!

A lonely bartender on Cape Cod and a mysterious girl next door. Who is this girl, and why does she cry every night? More importantly, why does he care? Together they form a tentative friendship through a crack between their doors. Will the crack open wide enough to let love in? A story of intimacy, healing and hope. Romance/Hurt/Comfort M Edward/Bella (WIP)

Thank you and Emma, FicLuvr, JazzGirl317, MizCullen, and SunflowerFran for sharing these recommendations with us all.

Hearts desire
Made by Frozen Soldier

Ever run across a Twific that you longed to bring into your (gasp) RL because it’s just THAT GOOD? I’ve discovered one on the very first chapter! I’m confident because these authors have serious track records. These girls can write. You may not know them as “daisyandphoebe,” but you probably recognize the names BelieveItOrNot and Thimbles. Their latest collaboration, “Heart’s Desire (Ceanothus gloriosus)” gives us a fading Bella, plodding through a life seemingly wrapped in routine and unfulfilled dreams. The authors’ delicate characterizations weave through delicious descriptions:

Strawberries, I’d dreamed, so crimson and sweet, the breeze would carry their scent into the house. My mother had always grown little strawberry patches even when it meant plucking out snails near daily. I remember a snail every once in a while making its way toward our front door as if an invited guest, the slimy trail exposing his path, betraying his friends or family still hidden under strawberry leaves. Why they wanted inside I couldn’t figure. They never made it though.

I love the subtle, wry observations, so deftly written, and this already has some real gems. Bella seems ready to make a change and the arrival of Edward seems imminent. This is going to be one Twific you’ll want to share with your friends, maybe even in RL!

Summary: Bella’s life, predictable and streaked with poor timing, can use a re-landscape. The decision to make some changes brings with it an old friend. The boy who had pulled up a chair, opened a sketch pad, and infiltrated her mind for four years stands, now a man, behind her screen. But inviting him in is not as simple as opening the door. M Romance/Drama Bella/Edward (WIP)

Summary: His reality was made of nightmares. She was plagued by them. Will she conquer her fears in time? Can he protect her?

Questions, questions, and more earth-defying questions. Yes, that’s right. There are questions in the summary of Buried, but that’s only a taste of what’s to come, as the further you read into this intriguing, murder mystery from ericastwilight, the more questions are raised.

The answers? We’re not going to spoil it for you by giving away anything; the fact we haven’t figured them out yet has nothing to do with our reluctance to share at all. 😉

Put on your big girl’s knickers, perch on the edge of your seat, and read this suspenseful story – if you dare!

If we’re honest, most of us are Edward’s girls. We check out the latest Cuteward and fall in love… :) But this is Bella’s story. Let’s be clear, Edward is gorgeous, swoon-worthy and totally fabulous, but it’s Bella who will have you crying, smiling and make you so darn proud.

Choc has given us a beautifully written one shot – it’s a long one – 14,000 words packed with emotion and bravery. Full of genuine sweetness and a real, honest-to-goodness seeing beyond the surface attitude, Bella has nothing but love in her.

It’s a delight to read, a lesson in humility and true love. Take time to read it, it’ll warm your heart and stay with you for a long time to come.

We asked chocaholic123 what inspired her:

“When I saw the prompts for the Seven Sins contest, they were too interesting to ignore. I started thinking about a girl whose life choices were limited due to the sins of others, and that’s how A Beggar’s Banquet was born.

I wrote the story in about four days. It came out almost exactly as you read it now, save for some minor tweaks and a lot of grammar changes (thank you Midnight Cougar!). It was truly enjoyable to write.”

A worthy first place winner of The Seven Deadly Sins Twific Contest – congratulations Choc!

Summary: A girl who is paying for the sins of her mother. A mother who is a glutton for punishment. A doctor and his recently divorced son…could they offer hope at this beggar’s banquet? M Romance/Drama Bella, Carlisle, Edward, Renée – Complete
