Hello to all our fellow FicSisters – thank you for joining us for another post filled with wonderful tales written by our talented Fandom authors. Without further ado, we have one of those incredibly talented authors telling us all about her brand new fic – a big warm FicSister welcome to FluffyLiz (WOOT!)
I can’t tell you how grateful I am to the fabulous FicSisters for this opportunity to tell you about my new story, which is based on an idea I’ve had brewing for many years, long pre-dating my love affair with Twilight. From a very early age, I’ve always been fascinated by well-told ghost stories, as well as the magical forces which seem to be at work in England’s southern-most county of Cornwall. It seemed apposite, therefore, to combine the two, and I’m delighted that the Twilight fanfiction platform has enabled me to breathe life into this particular plot bunny.
So, as with my other fics, I have set most of the action in England, but in this story Bella is American, although her father, Charlie, is English. Living and working as an architect in Seattle, Bella is in England because of a bequest from her late grandmother. Whilst on her way to the lawyer’s office in Cornwall, something goes awry with the satellite navigation system in her rental car and she ends up driving to a strange, derelict house. Against her better judgement she decides to investigate, and so begins a tale of weird occurrences, fateful coincidences and an Edward who loved so hard that almost 100 years after his death he is still tethered to this world.
But why has Bella been drawn to this strange house? What is it about this young woman in particular that makes her so special… so different from those who have tried – and failed – to live in the house before her? Why are people so afraid to even go near the house, and why does everyone try to warn her against having anything to do with it? Here’s a small taste of what awaits the curious reader:
I sighed, glancing round the space to see doors leading off on either side of the foyer, and a once-elegant staircase sweeping up to the floor above. I judged that it might be possible to reach the stairs, but I didn’t dare trust them. Even where the bannister was still attached, I knew it was likely that the risers would be damaged or rotten, and it simply wasn’t worth the risk. I would need a hard hat and steel-toed boots, at the very least, and the whole place would have to be scaffolded and shored up to provide adequate support for potentially unstable floors, walls and ceilings. With that in mind, I let my flashlight play across the interior, searching for major cracks in the masonry. I knew I would have to come back with better lighting and equipment, and that the place would need a full structural survey, but…
“Jesus, what am I thinking?” I muttered aloud.
Before the words had completely left my mouth, I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. Turning my head sharply back to the stairs, I could feel my heart rate pick up as I swept the narrow beam of light back and forth, seeing nothing. Just as my heartbeat started to return to normal, I felt the softest sensation of being touched on my face, like the feather-light caress of fingertips against my cheek.
Thus begins my story of ghostly obsession and a love which cannot fight destiny.
Summary: For nearly 100 years the house has waited, defying time as it slowly crumbles, until it can finally draw in the one person it needs to save the lost soul within. But why Bella, and will she understand the dangers before it’s too late? Rated: M – Romance/Supernatural – Edward & Bella -*WIP*
I feel like I’m giving a speech at the Oscars.
**pulls paper full of names to thank out of bra**
I am so honored to be asked to write about The Speciation of Me and for the wonderful people who’ve read and loved it.
When I took a sabbatical from the fandom, I wasn’t entirely sure I’d ever be back. Some painful things happened, and I needed my space to evolve from amateur writer to published author. It’s an achy growing process, and the space I took was needed. I wanted to come back quietly and with something different. The quiet part didn’t happen (this is where I’ll note how amazing the fans of Heroin Chic are!), but it’s better than ever.
The idea for Speciation came to me while I was sitting on the subway from North Hollywood to Downtown LA. There are times when the smell is so…ripe, I can’t help but wish I were somewhere else.
My subway ride is about an hour long each day, which gave me enough time to write two short, unbeta’d chapters: one in the thirty minutes to work, and one in the thirty minutes back. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ve always tended to favor the whiskey side of life. The subway was my desk and the iPhone my quill and parchment.
As far as plot bunnies go, this one hopped around like the jackrabbit on crack. I didn’t know where it would end up, and I honestly played the whole thing by heart and ear, touch and feel. This method is very different than I’m used to, but there was a method to my madness.
A year ago, nearly to the day I started writing Speciation, I completed a gigantic literary novel, Message to New York. It’s well planned out and structured and beautiful. Speciation was my opportunity to unwind from it, and what a grand exercise it was for me! My writing literally evolved with the evolution of Bella. Her mood of any given day was determined by mine and words I was hearing around me and anything I happened to be feeling at that moment.
Now that it’s complete, I feel a sense of finality. I’ve never written such s sweet Edward, nor about cancer. The chapter where he discovers the lump made my insides ache, and as she brushed away her beautiful hair for the birds to use in nests, I didn’t know if she would survive in the end. She became so real to me – a piece of me.
Writing their happy ending, skipping weeks or months or years while I wrote was exciting. I felt a freedom I hadn’t known before in my writing. I’m using that freedom now, as I write Heroin Chic.
As an author, the best thing I can be to my reader is an instigator of feelings.
Thank you so much for asking me to be here!
Summary: My favorite word was fuck. It always had been; always would be. I took my coffee black – French-pressed – and my wine dry and red. I took Jake with a shot of whiskey; Edward with a mimosa. I was stuck between a mix of worlds – theirs and a hazy one I could never see clearly – and it was all a gigantic mind-fuck. Rated: M – Romance/Angst – Bella, Edward, Jacob – *Complete*
Hi there, fellow fic addicts. It’s me again. It will probably come as no surprise that I am back again with another LyricalKris story to recommend. Could she get any more prolific? Little Dreamer has just started posting, and it’s a humdinger. When I read the first chapter, I was, once again, flail central. Like OMG, you are going to kill me. With each chapter pre-read and beta’d, I would finish up going HOLY HELL. It’s twisty, turn-y and will have you shaking your head with I-did-not-see-that-coming.
It starts off, as the summary states, with a young pregnant girl in very deep trouble on the streets of a small Washington town. It’s gripping and scary and consumed me with an overwhelming need to scoop up this kid and help her. She’s been through the mill and is desperate to find help in the form of a father who doesn’t know she even exists. Sounds like a scenario from hell. Well, yeah.
This is the kind of story that has you on the edge of your seat, filled with angst, fear, sorrow, hope, and desire for redemption. But for whom? What is going to happen? There are lots of secrets to be revealed and Kris does a good job of showing just enough to keep you guessing. That’s one of the best things about this … endless theories. In the beginning, you move back and forth from past to present, and still there are questions. What happened to this young girl to make her so desperate that she would take to the road in her condition? “By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.” The witches in Macbeth got it right.
By turns, you get upset with everyone about literally everything. Bella is managing to live her life, despite this trauma. She’s stronger than she thinks, and I kind of love her. Edward, on the other hand, is living his life, clueless about the shit-storm about to descend on his ordered existence. But this is a Lyrical Kris story; you know the pieces will come together, and you will be pleased with the result.
So, I’m not gonna talk anymore about plot. Go read this and come flail and theorize with me. Only four chapters in.
Summary: Our story opens with a frightened seventeen-year-old girl on the run- battered, starved, exhausted and nine months pregnant. How this is going to turn out is anyone’s guess. Life never does know how to play fair. Rated: M – Angst/Drama – Bella/Edward – *WIP*
I love stories than explore an alternate reaction to Edward’s departure in New Moon. Especially when there is a twist involved.
The story is only two chapters in, but the twist explodes in the first chapter.
Alice—the ever omniscient Alice— has a vision. She sees Bella working in a strip club and sends Jasper and Emmett to check it out, without telling Edward.
Check it out, they do. Bella, or China as she is known at the club, is not happy to see them. She is a little more jaded, a lot more mouthy, and still angry. She tells them in no uncertain terms to stay away. She doesn’t want them in her life, or their help, and certainly not their money.
But of course they can’t—or at least Edward can’t when he finds out what is happening.
The thought of Bella—shy, timid Bella—working in a strip club seems so wrong. I want to know what drove her there. Where is Charlie? What happened to her life? How will Edward react when he finds out and what will he do?
2brown-eyes has piqued my interest with this unique story line. The whole family is there, including Emmett at his humorous best. This little exchange made me giggle.
“Whiskey on the rocks, please,” Jasper gave her his order then kicked me in the shin.
“Same, but make mine a double and no rocks, I’ll have ice. Shaken and not stirred,” I blurted out nervously, the first thing that came to mind.
Jasper shot me an incredulous look as if to say, ‘Are you stupid?’ Bel…err… China’s lips twitched slightly, and she snorted lightly.
“I’ll be right back.” She turned and sauntered off towards the bar.
“Hey, Mr. Bond, you do know that a drink on the rocks means ice and not actual rocks, right?” He shook his head and rubbed his temple.
I look forward to more chapters and finding out her story, and of course, discovering if she and Edward can find their way back together.
Summary: When Edward left Bella to have a normal, safe, human life, everything changed in the blink of an eye. When he finds her again, she’s not the same girl he once knew. In his opinion, she’s living — recklessly; putting her life at risk and hiding something. Will Bella let him back into her life, and allow him to help her before it’s too late? It’s always a joy to find a light, fun fic that’s amusing and engaging, right? When Bower-Of-Bliss was inspired to write It’s Just Not Cricket a few weeks ago she ticked all the boxes!
For those of you not familiar with the game of cricket – fear not – all the action we’re interested in takes place on the sidelines…and I think we all understand what a kiss-cam is…mmmhmm.
As BoB explains at the top of the story, in terms we can all understand:
Idiom: ‘It’s Just Not Cricket’ – Something that is unjust or is plain wrong.
For example: “Hey, did you watch the T20 match on TV last night?”
“Some of it. I was flicking channels because of the rain delay.”
“Did you see the guy who kept ignoring his girlfriend during the kiss-cam segments?”
“Yeah, I saw that. I felt sorry for the girl. That dude totally embarrassed her in front of all of those spectators. It’s just not cricket.”
So, when Edward is persuaded to stand in as the team mascot, Smash, and witnesses a gorgeous brunette being ignored during a kiss-cam moment, it seems he’s in the perfect disguise to have some fun!
In the space of six quick, charming and funny chapters, you’ll want to go to a cricket match, learn some new dance moves and fall in love with a genuinely lovely Edward.
Check out Smash (yes, he’s real!) and his routine here:
Summary: From Wikipedia – Cricket is a unique game where in addition to the laws, the players must abide by the Spirit of the Game. The standard of sportsmanship has historically been considered so high that the phrase “it’s just not cricket” was coined in the 19th Century to describe unfair or underhanded behaviour in any walk of life. Rated: M – Humor/Romance – Bella/Edward/James – *Complete*
Once upon a time…err…last Monday deJean Smith posted a Twilight fairytale, She Tames the Beast Within, and caused a little flutter of excitement in this story-loving FicSister’s heart. The tone of the tale took me back, far back, in the mists of time to my youth. Having said that, at barely over 1,000 words in, it’s obvious this story is not “the watered down all is light and roses” type meant for children.
I’ve no any idea what winding path this story is going to follow; not an inkling about adventures that may be had along the way; no notion at all regarding the characters and creatures we are likely to meet, but I know I’d love for you all to be my travelling companions. (I’ve heard it’s dark in the forest and there’s safety in numbers. I’m only teasing!) However, there is something else I’m sure of: She Tames the Beast Within will end with and they lived happily ever after.
Summary: She only knows of a day-to-day existence. He only knows of life on a silver platter. She only knows contentment with what she has. He only knows the lust for more, and he has her in his sights. Rated: M – General/Romance – Bella *WIP*
Taking a chance on a brand new WiP can be a risky strategy, we don’t know what we’re letting ourselves in for. The bonus, however, is that readers can scurry into groups and pm FaceBook friends to gasp, cry, hold hands and theorise together!
That’s one of the reasons why reading Ready For You is addictive. Chapter One had reader spidey-senses tingling…questioning the behaviour and attitude of Bella’s husband while she was giving birth to baby girl number two. It became imperative to know what he was up to. Fandom mamas sharpened their knives and prepared their pitchforks…but were the suspicions unfounded? You need to read to find out!
The first few chapters gave readers some little panicky moments – you’ll understand when you read it- but in case you need any reassurances:
There’s a guarantee from author Lost In Fanfiction – there is no E/B cheating. The second guarantee is from us – you’ll love Bella and will definitely be right by her side, willing her on.
At six chapters in, enough has been revealed to know that we want the best for Our Girls…and surely that can only mean one thing!
Summary: From the outside Bella’s life looked perfect, but looks can be deceiving. When reality comes to her door she is forced to make some life altering decisions. (no E/B cheating), AH, HEA, short chapters updating once a week or more. Rated: M – Romance/Drama – Bella & Edward – *WiP*
First of all, this FicSister has to give credit where credit is due – author-self-insert recommended this story on one of her chapters of Gothic (I bow down to her great fic knowledge!). I was intrigued by the summary and thought I would pop on an alert to read it later. Of course, I just had to read the first chapter, then the second – you know how it goes *winks*
Usually in stories that start out in High School, it is Edward who is the popular, revered one – but Take a Little Trip flips the ‘norm’ around and it is Bella who is the popular cheerleader with a reputation to uphold. Bella crosses paths with Edward when she needs a tutor and Edward…well, he is less than cool. But even when he is a little dorky – he still melts your heart. Needless to say, things don’t end well between these two, but they are destined to meet again a few years later and oh, how the tides have turned…
I loved this story, it is a tale of mistakes made, lessons learned, taking chances and who doesn’t love a good story of redemption?
What amazes me is that this story that completed in July of 2010 still only has 680-odd reviews – it deserves a whole lot more, I am sure you will agree when you read it. This was my first KristenLynn story, but I can assure you, it won’t be my last!
Summary: In high school, geeky Edward tutored popular Bella. It ended badly. Four years later, Edward reappears in one of grad student Bella’s classes. Both have changed. A lot. Will it be enough? AU/AH,OOC – Rated: M – Romance/Drama – Edward & Bella – *Complete*

I am a big fan of Jessica314’s very funny multi-chaptered fic titled Vampirism For Dummies. In it a rather pompous Carlisle pens the results of a research on his own species, adding at the bottom a comment to the chapter itself, which is written by Emmett. The result is hilarious and it represents a sort of medicine for her other WIP, Tale of Years which is rather angsty, as it deals with the bitter years lived by Edward before he meets Bella.
Being a big fan of both, I asked Jessica if she was going to write all the chapters of Vampirism For Dummies and she told me that, as she is rigorously T rated, she was too shy to write about vampirism and sex. She proposed that I do it, since apparently I am a X rated granny This friendly challenge somehow suspended my writer’s block, and so I produced a one shot: Vampires’ Sexual Drive. I hope it complements Jessica’s work appropriately!
Summary: this O/S is meant to be a chapter of the wonderful Vampirism for Dummies, by Jessica314 and it has been written with the full consent and encouragement of that author. To read her chapters will enhance your enjoyment of my fic. The main character is Carlisle, obviously, but Edward, Bella and many others will be easy to recognise. Rated: M – Humor/Supernatural – *O/S*
