The Gift of Fic!

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas around the International House of FanFic and we have some gorgeous gifts for you today.

The absolutely delightful NeedMyFix starts us off this week with her recently completed Point of No Return

It all started with a story I heard while eavesdropping on my mother’s conversation with her friends, while I was trying to unobtrusively do the dishes.

Hey, I was just helping out!

But you should listen to what some of the old biddies have to say. I’ve always been perversely curious – though their laments about declining bodily functions would roll the strongest of stomachs.

Alas, I digress.

So, when I heard about a woman who’d just found out that her husband of five years had been married before her and she hadn’t the faintest clue; it got me thinking. And hence, Point of No Return was born.

I wondered what would Bella do if she’d just found out that while she was busy falling in love with Edward, he’d had a wife? Oh, I know how it sounds. And before I wrote such a thing, I probably wouldn’t have touched such a story with a ten-foot pole. But once the idea was in my head, it just wouldn’t let go, until I put the proverbial pen to paper.

When I started out, Bella was the only narrator whose perspective I cared to write. But then I started thinking about Edward’s side of the story. Why would he do such a thing?

I tried to be realistic about it. And I think that’s where my out-of-character Edward retained some of his canon tortures-himself-over-it characteristics. Lawyerward is a product of my Suits obsession and a love for flawed heroes.

Beware, he’s a bit of an asshole. At some point in this story, should you deign to read it, you’re bound to hate him, or me, or both.

Ahem.” He cleared his throat and I looked into his cutting green eyes, my cheeks reddened at getting caught ogling him. He raised an eyebrow and looked at the book I was still holding on to like a lifeline.

“Oh, I’m so sorry.” I carefully placed it back on the shelf and looked at him, “You have a vast collection. I was tempted.”

He snorted, “Aren’t we all?”

“Excuse me?”

“Oh, you heard me. I would’ve made a that’s-what-she-said joke, but judging by your shifty eyes and overall skittish demeanor, I bet you would’ve sued me for sexual harassment.” Then raising a challenging eyebrow, he added, “Or passed out.”

I rest my case. And let me tell you, Bella isn’t exactly fond of him from the get go. But he does things and says things that get under her skin, and before you know it, they both give into the temptation. If nothing else, it is sure to be a tumultuous ride.

This story wouldn’t have reached its conclusion, if it weren’t for a kickass lady who goes by SunflowerFran. And, finally, thanks to the lovely FicSisters who are willingly putting up my ramblings on their site.

NeedMyFix aka Nat

Summary: “Nothing, Edward. Not a word. You broke my trust and completely shattered me in the process. It’s left us at a point of no return.” There’s always a reason why people do what they do. There’s always another side to the story. Rated M ~ Angst/Romance ~ Bella/Edward ~ Complete

When FicSisters asked me to do this, thank you Ladies, I was thrilled. And then I sat down to actually do it and quickly became terrified. What if I do a terrible job and no one reads the story? That would be a travesty!

Moosals’ reviews to a story can be a work of art in their own right – so I was excited when she admitted she had an idea for a fanfic, especially after she gave Blue Hour’s Edward his happy ever after.

Then she sent me the first chapter to read, and then the next and then the next. That is when I turned email stalker on her for not writing it fast enough. I am hoping she has forgiven me but I was fascinated by the lifestyle she portrays in the story and enchanted with the way she wrote it.

I will admit that there was a time when I wanted to bounce this Edward’s head off the hood of his Volvo but that was because Moosals story made me care about he and Bella as a couple. They fit so well together in their world, no matter how ‘out there’ it may seem to some of us. I adore a well written story where I am exposed to something new and this has that in spades.

It is not an ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ drama, it is a gentle tale that nevertheless does not let us forget that real life is not always on the same page we are and that it does not always require thermonuclear retaliation to get things back on track.

I love it and I hope you will too when you hop over the fence to see if The Grass is Greener!

Summary: Did you ever stop and look at your life and realise you aren’t where you want to be? Did you ever chance look at someone else’s life and wonder if their grass really is greener? Rated: M ~ Romance/Humor ~ Bella/Edward ~ Work in Progress

This FicSister has read a *lot* of FanFic, but I can honestly say with my hand on my heart, that I have never read a story anything like Written in the Stars by Lissa Bryan.  I’ve had this wonderful story on my “to be read” list for eons it seems, but just a couple of weeks ago, I spent some time orbiting the Forx Galaxy.

The storyline is completely original and I was in wonderment at how Lissa has created this fabulous world.  I fell in love with Edward almost instantly and I know I will hold a special place in my FanFic heart just for him.  He’s sweet, he’s gentle and it’s not surprising that it doesn’t take Bella long to appreciate all Edward’s gifts.  Bella herself is amazing as well – she adjusts incredibly well, considering she is torn from her own world and plunged into an alien world…literally!

There is a truly great supporting ‘cast’ of characters and I was particularly fond of Tanya (there’s a first!  LOL).

I know most of you out there have read this wonderful tale, but for those of you, like me, who haven’t had a chance yet – go go go – you won’t regret it!

Summary: Edward is king of a dying race, his planet torn by civil war. Bella is abducted to become his bride. From college student to Queen… Can she learn to love this strange man and help save his people? AU/OOC ~ Rated: M ~ Romance/Sci-Fi ~ Edward/Bella ~ Complete

Although not strictly a Christmas fic, FluffyLiz‘s heart wrenching tale of a beautiful, homeless young man finding someone who cares is seasonal…and always worth a read! We must confess Where Roads Converge is dear to FicSister hearts, so we can’t resist including it here.

To be fair, probably everyone in the Twific fandom is already reading A Snowfall Kind of Love…it’s TheFicChick, for goodness sake! Just in case there are one or two of you who haven’t yet stumbled upon it, or your email alerts have failed, then it’s time to get on board.

As always, it’s beautifully written, beautifully crafted and totally transports the reader. In other words; total bliss!

It’s the build-up to Christmas and Bella’s an intern at Grove House, a group home for teenage boys – actually her time is done and she’s applying for regular positions. But she not only has a deep affection for the boys who live there, but also her boss, the founder, mentor, and general all-round lovely guy…he’s stolen her heart and she absolutely doesn’t want to leave. Edward -for he is the object of her unrequited love- is dedicated, and reticent to share his life with anyone. *sigh*

It’s easy to fall in love with both Bella and Edward, they’re genuinely lovely people, with sad hearts hidden away behind brave smiles. They deserve love, support and happiness – yes, they truly deserve each other.

Don’t imagine it’s all sadness, because TheFicChick always infuses warmth and humor throughout her stories. Let’s face it, we can all empathise with Bella and her longing …and active imagination!

“Hey there, Michelin Man,” he replies, watching from between stacks of papers as I drape the puffy coat over the coat stand behind the office door. I roll my eyes at the familiar jibe; Edward always gives me shit about my coat.

“The Michelin Man was white, jackass.” He pushes his wire-rimmed reading glasses up his forehead and into his unruly hair before raising an eyebrow in the direction of my outerwear. “That’s cream,” I inform him, but I don’t know why I bother – it won’t do any good.

“Whatever you say,” he says with a half-shrug, eyes twinkling. “You look like a marshmallow puff.”

“Yeah, well, you look like Mister Rogers,” I reply, shooting a pointed look at his gray v-neck sweater, and he chuckles. I’d never admit to the truth of the fact that his elbow-patched sweaters have become appealing to the point of alluring, and I’ve spent more than one night imagining sliding my hands beneath them, up over the planes of his warm chest, feeling his heat – his heart – beneath my palms.

If you’re not reading already, it’s perfect to warm your heart and remind us that this season isn’t happy for everyone, but that we all deserve hope, security and love.

Summary: There’s one thing on my grown-up Christmas list, and while it includes a number of specifics in varying degrees of dirtiness, it really all boils to the one thing I’ve wanted for a year and a half: a do-gooder with unruly hair and a Mister Rogers sweater, and a lifetime of nights that would land me squarely on the naughty list. Rated: M ~ Romance/Friendship ~ Edward/Bella ~ Work in Progress
