Twilightladies has such a way with words, she writes very sweet and swoony Edwards and fluffy marshmallow cloud happy endings.

So when I read the expanded prologue for I Belong With You, I was floored by how much it made my heart ache and my lower lip curl out. It kicks you right in the gut. Poor Bella watching a lover canoodling on the beach with someone else. Her heart is broken. Her pain is palpable and leaps off the page with every word. The words are simple, yet are raw and gritty and so real, you can feel every emotion she’s going through. For someone’s first attempt at writing angst, Twilightladies certainly pulls you in. This Bella is relatable on so many levels. I just want to give her a big hug.

Of course, true to form, I left plenty of shouty-cap pre-reader comments all over her document, because, Cheater-ward? NOPE.

Hard limit for me. Lucky for me, it’s a hard limit for her, too, so I knew there’d be more to it than that.

When Bella makes a fresh start at university in Chicago, leaving behind her past in Jacksonville, she does so with a heavy heart. She’s still in pain, and doesn’t trust anyone. She’s a little shy, and keeps to herself.

Eventually convinced to attend a college party, Bella finds herself lost in an upstairs room with a mysterious stranger. They share a very sweet kiss, but poor Bella panics and runs.

But she can’t run too far, because the handsome stranger turns out to be none other than her library co-worker, Edward.

Cue all the swoony feels!

Each chapter starts with a flashback to life in Jacksonville, the details ripping your heart out and stomping all over it with spike heels. But the second half of the chapter nurses it back to health again and sews it back up gently, showing Bella growing and dealing with her past, and giving the reader hope.

Twilightladies unique style makes for a roller coaster of emotions, which is what I love about this story. It takes you from heartbreaking to heartwarming with some lovely lemons along the way!

Summary: In those moments, I realize it’s over. Planning to follow you to the same college is not an option. I can’t be near you and watch you love another. With one last glance at my past, I turn and go back the way I came. I don’t see you turning around or the smile that falls from your face when you see me. Romance/Drama – Rated: M -Edward & Bella – Complete

Ever start a brand new story and even though you are barely a chapter in, you think to yourself, “right now, I’m in my happy place”?  Ready to Love Again will give you that feeling – it’s like coming home on a cold night to a warm house and glass of wine.  Sheer bliss.

Escaping her turbulent marriage, newly divorced Katie Rodriguez and her lively son Shawn are making a new life for themselves on the Monterey Peninsula.

Unlike Katie, Dr Chase O’Donnell had a near picture perfect marriage with two beautiful children, but three years prior, a tragic event changed all that when his wife is taken away from them all too soon…

Here at The International House of FanFic we love that feeling you get when you just know two characters are meant to be together – planets align, fate intervenes, destiny takes hold.  When Chase and Katie have their first meeting on the beach something bigger (apart from that excitable dog) brought them together. *sigh*

Annalyse Knight does a beautiful job of lodging these two characters into your heart.  You cheer for Katie as she leaves her less-than-desirable marriage behind her and makes a whole new life for Shawn and herself. You will sympathise with Chase as he struggles to let his beloved wife go. The story is so relatable and real.

It isn’t all smooth sailing, though, these two have problems to face and not everybody wants them to have their happy-ever-after.  But sometimes you just can’t fight fate!

As a girl with some very pretty gay male friends, I’m pretty familiar with that ‘if only he were straight’ fantasy. So when I read an entry in the Friends To Lovers contest that started out with just such a premise, I was dying to read it.

Bella lives with her friend and roommate Edward, who she secretly crushes on and knows he’d be the perfect man for her. He’s a pediatrician, he’s gorgeous, and they are the best of friends, but he also happens to be gay. Edward’s dated men in the four years Bella’s known him, but since he’s not out at work and with his family, she often accompanies him to events as his beard. It’s hard for her to be halfway in love with a man she can never have, but she somehow manages to hang in there and keeps telling herself it can’t be anything more. But Bella has no idea that there’s more to Edward’s sexual orientation than meets the eye, and she might have just underestimated his feelings for her.

This one shot made me giddy, but I could see the inherent problems in Edward and Bella’s relationship. How would Bella feel, dealing with the exes in Edward’s past that were a different gender from her own? How would Edward’s gay friends react to him being with a woman? How do you explore a sexual relationship with someone whose experiences have been so different to your own? I begged for the story to be expanded, and luckily for readers, Robzbeanie wrote it. She’s doing a great job of exploring the answers to all of those questions, including some things I hadn’t even thought of. Their love and sexual compatibility is something they’re still exploring, and it’s incredibly sweet and sexy.

I do appreciate that she’s also dealing with the real issues that crop up in a relationship like that, the insecurities, the uncertainty, the fear that you may not be all your partner wants and needs, because it gives the story a sense of integrity. I do love my fantasy of turning a gay man straight, but it’s that much sweeter for a dose of reality.

Foolish Hearts was originally supposed to be an entry for the Age of Edward contest. In fact, the doc is still labelled: AoE – Oregon Trail. The Age of Edward contest always attracts me because I love historical pieces because history adds an element to the story. It changes the way the characters act and think. A historical event comes alive when you have to live it as someone of that time would.

I couldn’t contain any storyline I thought up to one-shot length, so I quickly gave up on the contest idea and started writing the story in earnest.

I have always loved The Oregon Trail game. I used to make my parents take me to the library to play it (yes the pixelated old school version where you most likely will die of dysentery). I own the current version of that game which is much more in depth, provides much more history, and, depending on when you travel the trail, will allow you to journey to more places than just Oregon City.

You still have to choose the names of the people in your wagon, and I usually choose Edward, Bella, Carlisle, Esme, Emmett, and Alice. As I play, I have a habit of making up stories in my head to go along with the game. Foolish Hearts came from my grown up game of make believe.

In and of itself, the idea of travelling across the country for half a year, give or take, across rugged, completely wild terrain was fascinating. It was an endless resource for drama. I could have my characters suffer injuries—trampled by livestock, caught in the wagon wheel, falling off cliffs where the trail was narrow. In my game, Carlisle has a habit of getting mauled by mountain lions or accidentally getting shot while hunting (ironic, right?). Then there were the endless river crossings to consider. Illness—they lived amongst the waste left behind by other travellers! Then, travelling with hundreds of other humans, you had thieves and murderers to contend with.

The possibilities were really limitless. The end result was the unlikely love story between a thirty-year-old guide who had already lost too much to the trail and an eighteen-year-old girl who had no idea what she was getting into. Just don’t think too hard about how much they must have smelled walking for months on end without anything that resembled a bath. Ha!

Summary: The Oregon Trail. Over 2,000 miles of unforgiving wilderness stretches between Bella and a new life. Edward knew from experience the trail was no place for young love, but then, his heart was known to be foolish. Drama/Romance – Rated: M – Edward & Bella – Complete

Innocents (Dusty #1) by Mary Elizabeth and Sarah Elizabeth

The girl with an innocent heart knows all about bad choices, but has yet to make them for herself. Searching for freedom, she finds it in the delinquent down the hall.

The troublemaker with summer-sky blue eyes knows he should stay away, but can’t resist the blissful wonder who makes his house a home.

She’s a hopeless romantic. He’s just hopeless.

She’s his reason, but he might not catch her when she falls.

She loves him. He loves her crazy.

This is what happens when a love made of secrets is kept with rules instead of promises.

She’s My Softer Side and I’m Her Motherfuckin’ Monster

Innocents is one of those stories that rips your heart out and then jumps up and down on it just to hear you scream. It’s a tour de force of beautiful writing and painful characters, mixing beauty with hurt until you’re not sure whether to root for the heroine or slap her around the face. And I mean that in a good way. The best. For me the perfect story makes me feel everything, and I can guarantee Innocents does just that.

The book begins with the pampered only daughter of a Judge, LeighLee (Bliss) arriving at a new school, making a new friend (Becka), and meeting Becka’s older brother, Thomas. From the start we can see there’s something between them, even if at their tender age it is simply a friendship. But from small acorns, great oak trees grow…

And boy, does this grow. It twists and turns as they both get older. And as Thomas grows into his teens, and starts to dabble in drugs, parties, sex with numerous girls, we see his relationship with Bliss both deepen and darken.

With a story that captures the darkest side of love, this isn’t for the feint-hearted. It isn’t for the die-hard romantic who wants an HEA at the end of their novel. But it has a vein of truth running through it that both nourishes and wounds. It makes me want to lock up my teenage daughter and never let her leave the house again.

Innocents is absolutely addictive. The kind of story you have to read just to find out what happens, to see how the characters redeem themselves, and how they make love work. And yet there’s also that growing awareness that maybe, just maybe, this story is going to kick all the rules of romance out of the window and stay true to reality. For Dusty and Bliss, Happy Ever After is definitely not guaranteed.

If you like your angst painful, and your romance raw, this is the book for you. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Innocents is the first in a series. The second book, Delinquents, is due to be released in October.

PenPalsWhy did this fic capture our attention? Granted Greye Granger is an author we admire, but it’s Bella who sold us this story. Again, why? She’s brave and strong, and best of all, she believes in the connection she made when she was just a girl, and Edward was just a boy forced into writing letters for school credits.

Now an adult, Bella takes a giant leap of faith into the unknown – she  gets in her car and takes a solo road trip across country grabbing her one opportunity to discover if Edward is The One. Hopefully not the one who slipped through her fingers. How far would you go for the chance of love?

We spoke to Greye Granger earlier this week and here’s what she said…

The inspiration for this story came from the idea of two people being drawn to one another having only met through their words. How powerful someone’s words can be.

Thanks Greye!  We look forward to watching this story unfold.

Summary: After being pen pals for years, Bella and Edward had planned to meet during the fall of 2014. Unfortunately, they lost touch, and now Bella is making the trip cross country to see him. Will Edward be there? Will he have moved on entirely? Romance/Drama – Rated:  M – Edward & Bella – Complete
