Spin & Sway Sometimes, no matter how strong you are, life deals you blows that are too heavy to carry on your own. Sometimes, no matter how fragile you feel, you’re the only one who can help bear the load of another. Sometimes when strong and fragile collide, the world spins and sways. WIP
The FicSisters have honored me with the privilege of including one of my stories on their new blog, and I can only hope to earn their faith in me.
Right now, I’m working on a story called Spin & Sway. It’s the story of a man, who’s been handed a difficult lot in life. Unlike many of the Edward’s I’ve written in the past, he’s neither rich nor famous nor lucky in love or fortune. He’s an everyday, blue collar worker struggling with the cards fate has dealt him, and he’s been dealt a pretty shitty hand.
Because of a drunk driver, Edward Cullen is now guardian to his precocious, pre-teen niece, Melody. As the story begins, Edward is struggling with many things: the loss of his brother and sister-in-law, the acceptance of his new role as a bewildered parent, and the need to deal with an addiction he’s trying desperately to overcome.
Enter Bella Swan, Melody’s new dance teacher. Edward feels something for Bella from the very first moment he sees her spinning and swaying in her dance studio. Unfortunately, bad timing and misunderstandings lead them to part under less-than-favorable circumstances. What ensues is Bella’s struggle to peel away the layers of hurt and grief surrounding both her new student and her student’s uncle while at the same time attempting to come to terms with her own past.
But this will be more than just a story about how Bella and Edward get together. They’ll find their way to each other, as we know Edward and Bella always do, but once they get together their tale becomes one about how two broken people create one whole unit, about a man discovering that he’s worth more than what’s on the surface, about a woman learning what true fulfillment means, and about a young girl learning to live again. Basically, the story is about how to heal.
Currently, the story is seven chapters in and will be posting on Mondays and Thursdays. Here’s a scene from an upcoming chapter:
“We don’t need your help!” he seethes so close I can almost taste his breath; cigarettes and mint. “Just because I’m a bit late with the fifty bucks doesn’t mean you won’t get it! It doesn’t mean I’m a man who can’t pay his bills, or who needs some damn woman to show him charity and bail him out of-”
“What the hell is your problem?” I whisper shout now. “I’m not trying to show you charity! I’m not that fucking nice! I just want to help! I know what it’s like not to have a mom around, and to have a dad who works fifteen hours a day just to pay the bills. I just want to help!” I repeat.
“We don’t need your help!” he reiterates, sticking a finger in my face so that I’m forced to jerk my head back. “Don’t compare yourself to Mel because you have no idea what her situation is, what our situation is,” he says, digging that same finger into his chest.
I grab his finger and wrap my hand around it. “Then tell me what the hell the situation is!”
His green eyes blaze, and suddenly the atmosphere shifts, and his eyes veer restlessly between my eyes and my mouth, and I know he wants to kiss me. I know he does. And I’d be the biggest fucking liar on the face of this planet if I pretended I wasn’t dying to feel his mouth on mine regardless of the fury in his words.
My lips part involuntarily, inviting, allowing and waiting as the seconds pass…
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to discuss my story, and I hope you’ll join Edward and Bella on their journey towards falling in love and healing.

TGBMcCray: a reader-turned-writer, TGBMcCray has written a couple of cracking one-shots (hello Cowboyward…I may have swooned 😉 ) and is currently writing a great WiP ~ Cullen’s Roadhouse ~ with a sassy Bella, a very cute Edward and a strong OOC cast that is both original and interesting. The writing is flawless and charming.
If you need further endorsement of her words, FluffyLiz rec’d her short story And Also With You in our One Liners from You – I have to agree with Liz, it is both deeply moving and very well-written.
This girl has talent and is seriously under-reviewed.
January – it seems as though everyone is either buried in snow, sweltering in a heat wave, or feeling blue because this is the hardest of months. No wonder we needed a World Hug Day on the 21st. Gemgirl65’s Massage Therapy is just the delectably warm, soothing treat we all need to make us feel better.
Gemgirl65 says: “I was inspired to write it because I had started going to a massage therapist to work out some chronic back problems. As I was lying there being worked on, I thought, ‘Wow, imagine if this was a sweet, gorgeous, sexy young man 😉 touching me instead of a middle-aged woman!’ Writing the story was as therapeutic for me as it was for Edward and Bella by the end.”
Reading about Edward’s massages is almost as fabulous as experiencing them.
Massage Therapy “I knew I was in trouble the minute I saw her naked back.” Therapist by day, musician by night, Edward gets more than he bargained for when indie label scout Bella comes to his firm for treatment. One touch will unravel their secrets…but are they ready? Complete
I Remain, Yours Bella is unexpectedly given an antique desk that once belonged to Edward, and in it she finds a letter he wrote to his cousin in 1918. She responds and sets them off on a journey neither could ever have expected. Perhaps there are some things we aren’t meant to understand, just accept… Will eventually contain character death – NOT Edward or Bella.
We have all heard of people falling in love online. The phenomenon is quite common now, you can Google it. Couples falling in love through old-fashioned letter writing happens too. Wondrous true love blooming, when the boy and girl communicating in this way, live in different centuries, now that is not an everyday occurrence. That, however, is exactly the scenario that awaits us in I Remain, Yours by Momatu. A 1918 Edward Masen corresponds with 2009 Isabella Swan and shows us the power of the written word. It is a pleasure to watch the initially freaked-out Edward and Bella, as they enter into the others’ world so hesitantly with tentative steps. See them gradually become close friends and confidants, and then eventually bear witness to them fall in love.
Don’t you just love when Twilight Edward shares glimpses of his human life? Have you ever wondered if you would fall in love as easily with human Edward or is it something inherent in his vampire nature that makes us all powerless to resist him? Momatu has written her warm flesh and blood 1918 imperfect Edward so perfectly, it’s easy to find out. He tries to be open and modern and indeed he is, well for a man of his time, although he lives by his values and gentlemanly ways. He shows such compassion and gentleness in his volunteer work at the hospital, that you can tell he has the makings of an excellent doctor. Yet, he is a normal 17-year-old boy, keeping old handkerchiefs close to his bed. *wink* He is a baseball fanatic, has a wicked sense of humour and has fun going to B&W silent movies with his friends. On top of that, he is just crazy enough to correspond through a hidden compartment in his writing desk, with a 21st century girl!
The answer is, YES, you can just as easily fall in love with human Edward.
