Welcome to our home, we are bursting at the seams with eternally exquisite fics this week, but there’s always room for you. We start today’s post with ExquisiteEdward, author of the hugely popular Color of Loneliness, who has just started not one…but two new fics!
The inspirations for my stories come from very strange and unusual places. Sometimes I’ll be at the grocery store and see a person doing something mundane or unusual and it will suddenly trigger an idea in my weird brain. I love to ‘people’ watch. My favorite thing to do is to go to McDonald’s for breakfast and just sit and watch the people around me. I always see such a wide diversity of folk, and I get so many ideas from observing their behavior.
I love writing the funny. I see the world through a different set of glasses…mine are humor tinted. I wanted to write a funny story from Edward’s POV. I got hit with an idea of an Edward who had just moved to Forks and drove a beat-up, thirty-year-old Volvo. I immediately began to immerse myself inside his head. I had no idea who Bella was or even how they would meet. I just started writing with Edward and his back story in my head, and Bella suddenly appeared as an adorable ‘counter girl’ working at Swan Automotive and making her cheater ex suffer. As usual, it was a total surprise to me. I never outline. I just write organically. Once I’ve laid the foundation for the first chapter, I continue to build from there, kind of like a painter adds layers and shades of colors to a portrait. That’s how Counter Assault was conceived.
Chapter 2…that’s when I saw her. And damn, if she wasn’t a sight to behold. My cock reared his nosy head and stood up, trying to get a closer look at her with me.
Fuck me, all I could see was legs…long, bare naked legs.
Creamy, pearl-colored skin, curvy calves and silky thighs…
Sky high black stilettos…
And a way too tight black skirt, hugging a perfectly round, bite-worthy little ass.
She wore a black and white T-shirt – definitely a size too small – outlining some perfectly perky tits.
Her long, dark hair flowed down her back, curling softly at the ends.
I had to take back every negative thought I had about the creeper sitting outside the window. No wonder that guy had a front row seat. Where the hell was my lawn chair because my nosey cock and I wanted to take up residence right next to the dude and enjoy the spectacular view.
Counter Assault: She stole my heart the moment I saw her traipsing in front of that counter. Now how do I win hers and make her see that I am the only man for her? She’s been hurt, I know that. And I don’t have much to offer her other than my heart, which she owns completely. I’m going to lay it all on the line for her, and I have a few tricks up my sleeve to convince her I’m worth it. M Romance/Humor (WIP)
The same thing happened with Parched. I got hit with an idea of a Bella in a bar and started writing. A very different type of Edward showed up in this story. He’s very dark and mysterious and haunts her thoughts and her dreams. He constantly watches her and she can feel his eyes on her always. This story has a hauntingly dark and different feel to it, and I’m having a ball writing them both.
Teaser from Parched Chapter 4
I sweat, my slippery hand holds barely there my body lithe moving faster and faster towards the summit, the race almost complete, the pinnacle. “Don’t look down,” my mind whispers to itself. My eyes stay focused on the payoff, up there so high, soaring, soaring, flying recklessly high, high there against the clouds my hand touches that surface at the top, victory, but I lose my grip and fall back, falling, falling, falling…
Chest heaves, body trembles as I drop fast, faster and faster, gravity yanking at me. The ground, stay away, I don’t want it, ever, I want to stay in this moment this feeling of weightlessness, but I’m caught, I shiver when he catches me in his arms those arms so strong buoying me to him. When, when will he catch me? I’m ready, oh shadow, so ready.
Parched: He haunts me, awake and asleep. In the periphery, edges that darkness lit, he watches me. His eyes, those eyes, on me, through me. The want evident, thirsting always. I’m parched, how long until it is quenched? M Romance/Drama (WIP)
And given the week that’s in it…
When choosing a new story to read, I’ll often look to others to see what they are reading, what stories are garnering attention and the reasons why people love them. When choosing a story to read that I’ve read before I look at the following criteria, was it well written, did I enjoy it the first time, and did it have the ability to suck me in and make me forget everything around me? When speaking about Volition by Rochelle Allison the answer is yes, to all three.
Originally an entry to the 2009 Age of Edward contest, Volition is set in 1972 in Belfast, N. Ireland and tells the tale of Bella, a college student, who falls in love with her brother’s best friend Edward. She later discovers that both have ties to the IRA (Irish Republican Army) a group that conducted a paramilitary campaign aimed at ending British rule in Northern Ireland.
The story is well researched, and well written. It has the ability to make you feel as if you are right there with the characters. You can almost feel the chill of the air, feel the explosions that rock various establishments, feel their fear, feel their love. I also dare anyone to attempt to read this story and not hear the Irish brogue in their minds.
Rochelle is one author that I can re-read most of her stories and feel like I’m reading them for the first time. Volition is no exception to that rule, even the fifth time out it feels like the first.
So if you’re looking for something new, and a little different I urge you to read Volition by Rochelle Allison. You won’t be disappointed.
Volition: It’s Belfast, N.Ireland and the year is 1972. Bella’s worried about her brother and his best friend, Edward, and their dangerous involvement in the Irish Republican Army. Is it really wise to fall in love with a rebel? Rated M. Romance/Drama (Complete)
The Fleeting Moment is the most recent story penned by author, Camilla, who has already contributed some great historical fics to the Twilight fandom. If you’ve read her previous works, you’ve already followed her through Italy during WWII in “The Parachutist” and Tuscany during the Middle Ages with “The Pilgrimage”. But this time Camilla is giving her readers more than a story with a well-researched, historical background, as literature and psychology also play a very important part in this new fic.
The title of “The Fleeting Moment” comes from Goethe’s “Faust” (see? First literary reference). Her Edward did not have a human life in Chicago; Camilla gave him a totally different past that brought him to become one of the most important among the Volturi guards.
But even vampires can decide to cut with their previous life, and after his last mission Edward is so desperate that he seeks his own death…but can he succeed? Freud would have something to say on the subject.
In “The Fleeting Moment” you’ll get a story of redemption, guilt, and forgiveness.
Camilla didn’t work so deeply only on her Edward. Her Bella is a complex character as well. In this story Bella is impressive because of her courage when it comes to putting everything on hold—even her own life—to help people she loves. Will Edward be among the people she cares for most?
You should read the story to get all the answers. “The Fleeting Moment” is updated weekly (Yes! A new chapter every week!). I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Camilla replies to each review so don’t be shy and share your thoughts with her by leaving a review. She’d love to hear from you!
The Fleeting Moment: It starts with a tragedy: a desperate immortal is seeking his own death, horrified by the outcome of his last, deadly mission. But suicide isn’t easy for vampires, and this applies to Edward Anthony Masen, the Volturi’s Inquisitor, until Death challenges him… what must he do to get what he really desires? AU Drama/Romance Edward/Bella (WIP)
Imagine being this Edward: You have lost your father and best friend, and been captured by humans, who have found a way to keep you subdued/controlled, by feeding you inadequate and altered bags of human blood, something you had chosen not to drink since you were transformed. With Carlisle you had carved a life for yourself—you are a doctor like your sire, but now you’ve lost all which made your existence worthwhile. Buried in a pit-like prison, day after day, you are prodded and tormented by a vengeance-driven man and his sadistic assistant. Death is the only thing you can wish for…
Imagine being this Bella: Your beloved mother has been brutally murdered, your father only lives for his obsession, your lover is lost to you and your career interests you less and less as the sullen days pass. A monster like the one who killed your mother is captive in your father’s secret facility. Horror and hate should be all that you feel for him…
But, when those two desperate individuals see each other and manage to communicate, sometimes through creative and interesting mediums, things change. The evolution of Edward and Bella’s relationship is believable and moving and you will be cheering for them. Add to the mix some cruel Volturi enforcers and many surprises that keep coming, and you have a story you won’t want to miss. Snare is complete, and to leave reviews will be a very pleasurable experience; Raum always answers and sends nice, meaningful, virtual surprises to her readers.
Snare: The lives of Charlie and Bella Swan were devastated when Renée was murdered by a serial killer: The Drainer. Charlie, a former FBI profiler, is convinced that the killer is a vampire, and that those creatures are real. Nobody believes him, till the day he captures one of the undead. We asked Fallingsnow Winter why she felt inspired to create artwork for Rest My Soul by MrsSpaceCowboy.
It quickly became clear to me this wasn’t just another bar story, and the more I read, the more interested I became. The writer made me feel the connection between Bella & Edward, and at the same time there lies hesitation, and misunderstandings. To me, there is not one relationship that is easy, that doesn’t come without some sort of effort to make things work together. Ooh, I love bumps along the way in a story – I am definitely an angst reader!
I like how MrsSpaceCowboy keeps me guessing what has made Bella so very shy of relationships….possibly what happened to her as a young girl, or is it something from her more recent past? And, as for this intriguing Edward, he has been dealt a pretty crap hand and has been hurt in the past, but there is something hopeful about him too. This story portrays just how realistic this is to every day life and the dance we all have made at one time in attracting that one hopeful mate.
Rest My Soul: On opposite corners of Third Street and Beale, two lonely people fight to stay that way. Her scars are on the surface, soft on her skin and in her eyes. His run bone-deep, seeped in bourbon and blues. EPOV Romance/Angst Edward/Bella (WIP)
maruxf takes Twilight, turns it upside down, inside out, twirls it around and sets it back down as this fascinating, deep, and most moving story. Her unique grown-up take on SM’s canon plot is only surpassed by her beautifully written, convincing relationships, honest back-stories, and enthralling, fallible characters. Characters, btw, who will squeeze more empathy out of you than you knew you possessed. As it’s told in multiple POVs (very smoothly done), it gives the advantage of seeing into minds we are not normally privy to, as we witness the humbling humanity of the non-humans. Compassion Holding its Breath is heartbreaking, joyous, hopeful, entertaining, full of originality, in fact, everything you could wish for in a fanfiction story… and more.
Remember the feeling you had reading Twilight for the first time? That all-consuming draw to Edward *swoon*, the awe for Edward and Bella’s love story, the intrigue of the Cullens and their fascinating history, and everything else that brought you back to reread… Want that again? Read Compassion Holding its Breath, today!
We just had to ask maruxf to take us behind the scenes of this fabulous fic.
My inspiration for CHIB and the reasoning behind it are one and the same. I have been reading fanfiction for a long, long time and I always found myself drawn to stories and authors that used storytelling as an opportunity to explore the inner landscape of characters (anything by Giselle-lx, windchymes, counselor, chrometurtle, and lyricalkris, to name a few). The more I read this type of story, the more I realized the were a ton of things about canon that just plain didn’t make sense or outright contradicted other canon aspects. So I started to collect questions (I have a giant stack of index cards). Then I began to think about the answers that that would make sense but trying to stay within canon. That has been the biggest challenge, really.
Out of that, my Cullens came to life because I automatically started thinking: “Well, character A would think X-thoughts about Y-issue because he/she has the Z-experience in his/her background.” As to the multiple POVs, there was never really any question about having as many Cullens speak as the narrative needed. Otherwise, I would just be re-telling the original. I also love these characters! Love them with flaily love! I wanted them all to have a voice.
Oh yes, we too love them with flaily love!
Compassion Holding its Breath: Twilight always felt as if it had started from a much more “adult” place than the books showed; as if an editor had said “this is good, but let’s clean it up for young adults.” But really…why is Bella so insecure and where does Edward’s self-loathing truly come from? Rosalie’s festering hostility? Esme’s truncated yearnings? Carlisle’s regrets? This is a grown-ups Twilight. M Angst/Romance Bella/Edward (WIP)

The FicSisters were very excited to see that one of their favourite authors, littlecat358 (who wrote the fabulous Unplanned Perfection, The Hive and the pulled Demons in My Dreams – now published as Angel of Redemption by JA Little) started a new story this week – or to be precise, this story is an extension of littlecat358’s one shot that she wrote for the Fandom Against Domestic Violence, called The Invisible Line.
Earlier in the week, the FicSisters spoke to littlecat358 and here is what she shared with us about The Invisible Line:
Back in January 2011, I was thinking about what I could write for the fandom against domestic violence.
I’ve worked with DV victims for about 15 years and wanted to contribute. I was in the middle of writing and posting Unplanned Perfection, which was so angsty and so dramatic, I really wanted a relationship that was the complete opposite.
I wanted an easy friendship that had spent so many years burning just beneath the surface that when it got a really good spark, it exploded. I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to continue it, and had some of the chapters for years. It’s just been in the last few months that I realized that if I was going to post it, I needed to do it.
We are so glad that littlecat358 has decided to extend the original one shot – already at only two chapters, Bella has captured us, she is strong, sweet and funny and we are looking forward to seeing the relationship between Bella and Edward develop over time.
The Invisible Line: Edward and Bella, friends since high school, are very close. So close, that the line between friendship and something more is often blurred. Will they ever cross the line or will they always teeter on the edge of what could be? M Romance/Humor ExB
We can’t tell you how pleased we are to see 5 Star reviews being received by Cursed Be The Wicked. It’s a paranormal mystery romance and the debut novel of J.R. Richardson. She is known to most of you as the sweet and lovely, Jo FictionFreak95.
